6 Tips to Help Find your Niche Market

We’ve discussed the fact that marketing is crucial to the success of your business. Target marketing takes this a step further and can mean even better results for you. Some people find it difficult to narrow things down. Why not just offer my services to everyone who will listen and see who responds? Um, because no one will hear you, to respond.

You don’t want to just be in the business, you want to be the go-to person for your product or service. You want to become the expert in your industry and be known for whatever it is that you do or provide. How do you let others know that you are that expert? You must effectively target a specific market.

Here are straight to the point, clear cut tips to get your brain moving and ideas flowing!

1.) Brainstorm your assets

Often we do things so much that we forget what we can do and what we’re good at. Create a list of 5 things you love, 5 things you’re good at, 5 things you like to do, 5 jobs you’ve had and 5 educational courses/classes you’ve taken. Evaluate your list to see if there’s a pattern. You may be on to something.

 

2.) Identify and analyze your current audience

If you’re in business already, let’s see if there’s a trend, something you can hone in on.

 

3.) Analyze the product or service you are marketing

See what it is that you really have to offer and see exactly who is buying. Make sure you are speaking the right words to the right audience.

 

4.) Find your potential audience

With information from the previous tip, figure out who your audience is. Be precise. How old are they, where do they live, how much money do they have to spend, what do they like, where do they hang out, do they have children, are they married, are they in school, are they frugal, etc… you get my point. Build a profile of this person. The more you know about them, the easier it will be for you to know exactly what to say to them and provide them with what they want and need.

 

5.) Pinpoint 1 segment

Try to narrow your niche down to one specific concentration if you can. If you’re a baker, maybe you specialize in baking cookies or you’re known for your cupcakes. If you work in retail, maybe you narrow it down to specialty shoes or unique dresses. I hope you understand where I’m going. Be as specific as possible. You can grow and develop in this area and become the expert and demand expert rates!

 

6.) Design your site for your target audience

Once you’ve figured out who your target market is make your website appealing to that audience, be sure they know you’re speaking to them. Have photos, words and messages that are catered to them and what they want.
