Are you lacking energy, always finding yourself at the doctor or feel like your quality of life is slipping away? If so, it’s time for a fresh start to healthy living!

Transforming your health will lead to a stronger, alert, more confident, beautiful you. Yes, we have doctors and professionals who are “in charge” of our health. But are they really? Do they really have our best interest at heart? Ok, some do.

I’m not telling you to ditch your doctor. But I am telling you that your health is your own responsibility. They can guide you, but ultimately you need to know your body and be aware of what’s best for you.

It can seem difficult if you’ve never been conscious of this before, but it’s not impossible. You can start today.

Don’t wait until the morning or next week on Monday, start right now! You can make small adjustments that will lead to major habits and transform your life.

I’ve been where you might be. I’ve been careless about my health and allowed myself to depend on “professionals” to advise me and make recommendations for me.

But I decided to educate myself, and incorporate natural, organic habits. I benefit more, my children benefit more and my family benefits more. Win, win, win.

BlogHeadingHealthyStart

Ok, I have a lot to say here guys. Here are my top 10 tips to help you get going today!

1.) Make Sure That Your Spiritual Life is Sound

Get your affairs in order and be conscious of staying in good graces. At the very least, try to be a good, moral person.

There is a lot of peace in knowing you’re doing the right thing, knowing you’re helping someone, and knowing that your presence brings positivity and benefit to the world.

2.) Start Small

Make small changes daily. They will lead to long-term habits and right into your new lifestyle.

Don’t become overwhelmed thinking you have to know everything or do everything just right or it won’t work. That’s just not the case.

You only need consistency and determination. You have to want this, and you have to see it through. This is for life. Create, nurture and grow good habits.

3.) Drink Water

Let’s face it, we know a lot of what we drink is packed with sugar and a bunch of other ingredients we can’t even pronounce and know they’re not good for us.

Drinking water has lots of health benefits.

  • At least increase your water intake. Again, start small. If you’re not used to drinking water, start drinking 1 bottled water throughout your morning and 1 throughout the evening.

This will allow you to increase your water intake and decrease the junk. Most physicians will tell you to drink at least 8 cups a day, so work up to that.

  • You can infuse your water with different fruits or herbs to add flavor and more health benefits.
  • Drink a cup of warm lemon water in the morning. It helps flush the digestive system and re-hydrate the body. Fresh start to the day. More benefits here.

4.) Drink Green Tea

Green tea is an ancient gem of healthy goodness. It’s packed with antioxidants which aid you when you’re sick, it speeds up your metabolism and gets your bowels moving.

If you’re looking for an added drink to your new lifestyle, alternate between water and green tea. Even expand into different flavors of tea, pretty much every blend has different sets of health benefits.

Common Green Tea Benefits – See Healthline Newsletter for more:

  • Improves brain function
  • Increases fat burning
  • Antioxidants in Green Tea may lower your risk of various types of cancer
  • May protect your brain in old age, lower your risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
  • May reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease

Have a cup in the morning with breakfast, or at your meals throughout the day to replace sodas and juices. My kids love it!

5.) Get Moving

Whether you choose to just walk for about 20-30 minutes a day, your health and your body will see massive improvements. Walking for just 30 minutes a day can improve your mood and endurance.

If you want to scale things up a bit, try a few of these ideas:

  • Sign up for a class at your local gym. Group fitness is a big deal these days and options for classes to take, continuously expand. You can take Zumba, Dance Classes, Cycling, Kickboxing, Yoga, Pilates, you have possibilities for days.
  • You can get a membership at the gym and just go freestyle it. You can find lots of workouts on YouTube if you need some ideas for the gym, or even Google. There are also apps for tailored gym workouts that you can get right from your phone.
  • Get some comfortable work-out clothes, get something cute if you need that for motivation.
  • Be sure that if you’re lifting, get some protein in your system within 45 minutes of the workout to replenish your muscles.

6.) Track Your Food Intake

What you put into your body plays a huge role in how you feel and your overall health.

Ok, some may oppose this, and some may love it. I get that no one wants to count calories because it can seem very tedious. Even if you don’t track your calories, jot down what you eat and drink.

If you’re aware of what you’re eating and how much, you can easily see where you can make improvements and find patterns to cut off.

  • Make mental notes if you’re not one for writing things down, but be sure you have a good memory.
  • Use a journal. There are tons of free printables online if you’d like something creative and flexible. Or you can just buy a notebook from any local store.
  • Apps. There are lots of apps available on your Android or iPhone to look into. MyFitnessPal is a calorie tracking app, you can also use the desktop version straight from your computer. The beauty in the app is not just about counting calories. Because you’re tracking calories, it forces you to be mindful of portion sizes which is where a lot of us mess up.
  • You may see the calorie count for a huge candy bar and think, oh wow, only 140 calories. But if you look closer, it’s 140 calories per serving and it may say the serving size for the bar is like 2 or 3! Using apps like this one, make us more conscious of serving sizes. It can make a huge difference in itself.

My little portion size horror shock came the first day I started tracking. I’d had dinner at iHop. Once I entered in the meal I had eaten, it was like over 1,000 calories by itself!

Once I looked at my total from the day, it was somewhere around 3,000 easy. It was an eye opener for me. Seeing portions for what they really are can make a huge difference in trying to get to your optimal health. This brings me to my next tip.

7.) Watch Your Portion Size

Like I just mentioned, it’s easy to go overboard when you’re eating something good. Just controlling your portion size can make a drastic difference in the way that you feel and look.

Here are a few ways you can try to avoid eating too much.

  • First things first, know the serving size of what you’re eating and just eat one serving.
  • For food in large amounts, transfer it and then eat it. By this, I mean like if you have a big bag of chips and the serving size is 15 chips, take out 15 chips and put that on a plate or in a baggie and then eat it from there vs. eating straight from the bag. It’s easier to just keep eating if you don’t.
  • Use a smaller plate. If you use a smaller plate, naturally you will put less food on it.
  • Make sure that you give yourself some time for your food to settle and register to your brain that you’re not hungry anymore.
  • Eat slowly. If you eat slower, you give yourself a chance to break down your food properly and, again, allow your body to register that you’re actually full.

tape-403593_1920

8.) Eat as Clean as Possible

Try to focus on eating food as close to its natural state as possible.

  • I’m referencing to staying away from overly processed food as much as you can. You know, the ones with the label that have an ingredients list about a paragraph long. Now this won’t always be the case. Sometimes you have organic/natural processed foods with a lengthy ingredients list too, those foods may not be as bad, just be mindful of what the ingredients are.
  • Stay away from the middle aisles at the grocery store (as much as you can). The bulk of the healthy food, like produce, dairy and fresh meats are along the outer areas of the store. Stick to those sections.
  • Eat natural and organic food as much as you can. It can seem costly in some places but it doesn’t have to be. If you have a Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods in your city, they have store brands that are still organic and cost a little less than the rest of the food in the store. Shop around and get creative. If it comes down to it, pick and choose what you think is more beneficial to eating the organic version of and buy that.
  • Experiment a little. Find some healthy recipes and play around with them, make it fun. Pinterest is awesome for that.
  • Visit your local farmers market when you can. The produce will be fresh, maybe a little easier on your pockets and you’re supporting families from directly within your community.
  • Make shopping lists. Be prepared when you go grocery shopping so that you only buy what you need. Good for your pockets and you’re more likely to stick to the proper food you went looking for.
  • Meal plan. Pick a day of the week to sit down and plan your meals for the week. You’re more likely to stay on top of what you’re eating when you know what you will be eating in advance.
  • Eat healthy snacks. Reduce eating unhealthy snacks. I’m not going to tell you not to eat your favorite snacks or things you love, but just remember to eat certain things in moderation or try to find a healthier version of it.
  • If you eat out, choose healthier menu options. Just about everyone has them now.
  • Oh yeah, don’t skip breakfast. This is your fuel for the day and will get you off to a good start. Choose healthy breakfast options that will benefit your mind and body and not give you a sugar high or weigh you down.

Again, start small. Take baby steps to add these tips into your routine.

9.) Organize your Life

Living a life of chaos is toxic for your mental health. We cannot plan for everything in life, but things we can plan for, plan for them. Be as organized as you can, in your space and in your daily activities.

  • Use planners. Anytime you have a doctor’s appointment, sports activity, meeting, etc. jot down the date and time. Be prepared.
  • Have an idea of how your day is going to go. Plan for what you have going on, the night before.
  • I’m Muslim, I have 5 prayers to do throughout the day, so I have to plan when I’m going to certain places based on the time I have to go and if there will be some place to pray nearby. If you have regular activities such as this, everyday, then plan around the timings accordingly.
  • Set regular times for meals, sleep, exercises and running errands. If you know when you’re going to do something, it relieves your brain of trying to remember to fit everything in.

10.) Get Your Sleep In

Understand that your body needs the recovery that only sleep provides. You must get in a sufficient amount of sleep if you want to function at your best potential.

The National Sleep Foundation recommends ranges between 7-9 hours a night depending on age. Try these tips to help you sleep better.

  • Shoot for going to sleep at the same time every night. It will become routine for you and your body.
  • Make sure you have the right mattress and a comfortable pillow. This can make a huge difference in sleeping sound.
  • Set the scene:
    • Make sure your room is dark.
    • Keep electronics away from your sleeping area.
    • Use a good old-fashioned alarm clock so that you can keep your phone far away.

cat-2397607_1920

As you can see, living a healthy lifestyle includes everything from your spiritual and mental health to physical well-being. You will need to make adjustments over time to cater to all of these aspects of your life.

Accept that this will be a journey and a lifestyle change. It’s going to take discipline and consistency but if you achieve the goal of making the full transition, you will be so happy with yourself!

You’ll have all of the natural benefits that come along with living a healthy lifestyle. You will have more energy and clarity and be prepared for all that life has to throw at you.

Stay the course. Remember, slow and steady wins the race. You owe it to yourself and I’m rooting for you!

Go start now! Go drink a bottle of water, have a cup of tea, go to bed on time tonight, go for a walk, make your next snack a good one and make your next trip to the grocery store a health food shopping binge. Start right now!

Show Yourself Some Love

Show yourself some love…do what you love 🙂

Trying to start a business from home is a very popular choice of occupation these days. Trying to figure out which business to pursue is a little bit tougher. For most, it’s either an issue of having too many talents (if that’s an issue), too many interests or not enough enthusiasm about one particular thing. For a lot of us out here, blogging is one of those options that made the final cut. Now blogging in itself is pretty awesome. You can pick any topic you’d like to start blogging about and then you get to share your wisdom with lots of awesome readers, like YOU!

Finding that topic you’d like to blog about is another one of those ‘pen-to-pad’ moments. Again, you’re hung up on all the topics you like, would like to talk about or know a lot about. In order to reach the best market for you, it’s a good thing to specialize in something vs. writing in general. Then you get caught up in trying to figure out what’s popular and what do readers want to hear about? While that’s all fine and dandy, remember that you have to like what you do. It can’t all be about what other people want. Simplify your life and go with what you love, what comes easy to you.

You ever hear the term, there’s someone for everyone. This is true for blogging, too. Any subject matter floating around in the digital world will find its mate. If you love technology, you’ll find an audience. If you love weddings, you’ll find an audience. If you love cooking, you’ll find an audience. You get my drift. What I’m saying is, don’t be afraid to do what YOU love. When you put your best foot forward and provide valuable, quality content, there will be someone who can benefit from your knowledge. Why bring this up now? Because I’ve just recently had an epiphany of my own.

I had an aha moment where I realized how difficult it can be to try to create or search for topics to blog about when you’re blogging about something that’s not your love. I’m pretty passionate about entrepreneurship and helping people start businesses. I love writing, so I love blogging but I felt something was missing from my blogs.  I read an article yesterday about 5 habits of Millionaires. Something that was consistent on that list was taking care of yourself completely. Every aspect of caring for yourself, from your mental state to fitness, spirituality and developing routines.

I realized that my first love and something that comes easy to me, is living a healthy lifestyle. Over the years, I’ve developed so many habits that have been beneficial for myself, my family and anyone around me who will listen. This is something that I would also love to share with my blogging audience. These are all critical things that have changed my life for the better and promote clarity in being. With that said, I’m going to show myself some love and also blog about my first love, living a healthy lifestyle and including the family. I hope that you can benefit from the gems I’d like to sprinkle your life with. Stay tuned!

raspberries-215858_1280

And did I forget to mention, I’ve just self-published my first book on Amazon! Super exciting for me. It’s called How to Start a Hair Braiding Business From Home. I went out of my comfort zone and did lots of research to put this book together. Because of my passion for entrepreneurship, I want anyone who has skills to utilize them to their own financial benefit. I hope that people who have braiding skills will benefit from my book. I enjoyed the challenge and my sense of accomplishment in completing it. I’m working on my second book in a series to promote self-employment in communities. This one is about niche ideas for home daycares and how to market them. Another exciting journey for me.

Well there you have it guys, I’m going to start showing myself some more love and doing the things I love. I want the same for you. Re-evaluate your priorities and make sure you’re doing something that makes you smile. Show yourself some love…do what you love. Is anyone doing something in their lives that they love and would like to share? I’d love to hear about it. Anything from working out more, cooking, blogging about something you’re passionate about, feel free to comment below.

Best to you, Shante ♥

The Importance of ‘Why’ You Want to Start a Business

Knowing the importance of why you want to start a business from home.

It seems like ‘the thing’ these days to have your own business. Everyone is raving about the joys of working from home. I don’t disagree that it’s awesome to have the ability to start a business from your computer or just remotely, period. However, just like anything in life, it’s not for everyone.

When you have a good thing going, it’s great but the idea of getting into a business to get rich quick or looking for some magic formula to where you don’t have to do anything is a fantasy. Those ultimately lead to dead ends, frustration and more importantly it ends with quitting. Just having some point of reference for yourself about why you want to start a business will do wonders for you in the long run. Here’s why…

0523 Blog Post

1.) It may lead you to what you want to do

There are so many legit opportunities out there aligned with your skills or interests and knowing ‘why’ can help you narrow down all those fields. For example, if you want to be with your children you may think of running a daycare. If you just love driving and socializing you may want to start a driving service, and so on…

2.) It may lead you to the duration of how long you want to run your own business

If your reason for wanting to start a business is because you’ll be on maternity leave and won’t get paid, you may want something temporary like selling Avon or Lu La Ro. Since these are direct selling companies, the entire formula and product line are laid out, there’s minimal work on your part as far as that goes and you can do it for as little or as long a time as you’d like and then jump right back into your routine when you’re ready.

3.) It will keep you on track when you try to go in 10 million different directions

If you know your ‘why’ you can create a simple plan of action from the beginning and keep referencing it when you need to get back on track. Because there are so many things to get into, it’s easy to know that you can do them all and then get caught up in which one you should actually be pursuing. Go back to your plan of action whenever you feel this way and stay on track.

4.) It will remind you not to give up on those tough days

If you’ve sworn off never working for someone again or told yourself you want to be home with your children when they get off that school bus or never face getting laid off again, you will remember to push through your anxiety and never give up on making things happen for yourself.

Keep your ‘why’ on your mind and keep your plan of action handy so that you know your path and never lose focus. Of course tweak things as you go along but maintain your overall outlook on your business and why you want it and you’ll be just fine for the long haul. If you need help or encouragement, reach out.

Believe in Your Own Dreams

Tips to give you the push you need to believe in your dream and make them a reality.

As it may seem, no one should have to tell you to believe in yourself. But in a world of uncertainty and constant judgement, there are times when it is hard to believe in what you believe without someone’s approval. The fact of the matter is that no one will ever have a reason or a desire to naturally believe in what you want for yourself. Sure, you have family and close friends who would love to see you succeed and want the best for you but nobody has your back like you do.

Here are some tips I want to share with you to safeguard your dreams and take the leap of faith:

0508 FB Post

1.) Start small and grow in to your own

Don’t think you need to have all the pieces to the puzzle before you start. Start from where you can, learn and adapt along the way wherever you see fit. This is your dream, mold it as you wish.

2.) Safeguard your dreams

Don’t share your dreams with everyone. Some people are not prepared to support you and some people secretly don’t want you to succeed. Don’t give anyone the opportunity to block you before you get going.

3.) Indulge in Self-Talks

Even though it may sound silly and you might feel silly at first, talk your dreams in to reality. Take a few moments each morning and tell yourself who you are, what you want and what you’re going to do. This will go a long way toward building confidence in yourself.

4.) Be Consistent

Once you do start, keep going. If you’ve built a profile on social media, be consistent with when you post. If you’re blogging, be consistent about when you put out new content. For whatever you get into, once you get going, keep going.

5.) Subscribe to lists of Motivational Quotes

Sometimes we need a little encouragement. This step will help you to stay in a state of remembering what you’re trying to do. If you’re looking for a good one to follow on Facebook, Like my page at https://www.facebook.com/AwesomeEntrepreneurs/ where I post daily inspirational quotes, articles and videos to help entrepreneurs stay motivated.

6.) Create a vision board

Create a digital vision board, a poster or even a binder full of visual aids to keep you in the spirit of moving toward what you want for yourself. Be sure it’s somewhere you can see it or reference it regularly. Seeing is believing.

7.) Don’t forget to be true to yourself

Be authentic, it separates you from the rest because even if someone else is doing what you’re doing, no one else will do it like you.

To leave you with, I’ll share one of my favorite quotes that I’ve shared with my followers on Facebook: ‘Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.’ – Oscar Wilde

On that note, believe in yourself and get out there to show everyone what you’re made of. Please share if you have tips of your own.

Best to you, Shante ♥

Tips for Self-Care While Running your Business

Tips to reduce your stress and enjoy your free time for business owners and entrepreneurs.

It’s easy to get caught up in the daily tasks of running your business. You have lists beyond lists beyond lists of things you don’t want to forget. If you have a family, you give them their time and you still have to manage your duties of running your home and keeping up with everything. One area we fall short in, is taking care of ourselves.

You must take time out to be still. Time needs to be spent NOT working on your business, NOT chasing the kids, NOT cleaning or cooking and NOT feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders. You must take time to care for yourself. This is something that no one else can or will do for you but it’s essential if you want to keep your sanity. Here are some helpful tips that I hope you can put in motion.

Blog0425

1.) Sneak in a morning workout

Yoga is really good to get your blood flowing, get a good stretch in and clear your mind for the day. Whether it’s 15, 20 or even 30 minutes, a workout is a great way to start the day with clarity, not to mention great for your overall health.

2.) Read

Another great way to escape reality is to get lost in a good book. You can choose to read a topic of your liking, a spiritual text or even something educational for your field of business to help you expand your knowledge and improve your skills. Get in some comfy clothes, set the mood and lounge on comfy furniture. Give yourself about 20 -30 minutes.

3.) Take a nice bath

For a tried and true method of total relaxation, a good bath has never failed. Go all out and infuse your water with essential oils, bath salts or your favorite types of aroma, get a nice bath pillow if you can, dim the lights or use some candles and maybe even add some soothing tones. Soak away the worries of the day.

4.) Take a leisurely walk

I know we’ve technically addressed getting in a good exercise but if you can sneak in a stroll through the park or even your neighborhood with great sunlight or a midday breeze, your happy endorphins are in for a real treat. There’s nothing like a good walk with nature to clear the mind.

5.) Indulge in a hobby or your favorite pastime

If you organize your time properly, you should be able to fully engulf yourself in your favorite hobby or pastime. Whether you love to sew, paint, bake, play tennis or shoot some hoops, make time for it. Again, set aside a good 20-30 minutes to yourself and have fun!

Stress will find you if you let it and you can easily become overwhelmed with work. Make time for yourself and enjoy some of the things that make you happy instead of always focusing on everyone else. Until next time, take care.

Tips to Stay Accountable in your Business

Tips to help you with accountability in running your business.

Let’s talk about accountability. When you work for an employer, you have someone telling you when to start, stop and break. While working for yourself, and from your home, it’s all on you. You must be disciplined enough to know when to start, how long to take breaks or tend to other tasks and when to quit. Being organized about how you utilize the time you have is crucial to your success.

 BlogAccountability

Here are some tips to help you hold yourself accountable in your business and be more productive:

Keep an accountability log – let’s start simple. You can easily create an Excel spreadsheet with dates and columns of repetitious tasks and headings that identify goals you want to hit. It doesn’t need to be fancy to get the job done. Every day that you work, fill in the cells with what you’ve done that day. It’ll give you a snapshot of your progress over time and allow you to have something to show for your time spent working and identify modifications you may need to make in your business.

Create a schedule. Just because you’re working for yourself doesn’t mean you don’t need one. Not only will this allow you to be more productive, it will help ease stress. When you think of all the things you must get done throughout the duration of the day, it’s hard to focus on the task at hand. If those tasks are already planned and you know when you will get to them, you can focus on your work and give it your all in its respective time.

Get out. Occasionally, grab your laptop and work materials and find a new place to work from. If your phone can be a Hot Spot for you, you can literally go anywhere. Try a nice park, a coffee shop, a book store, library, anywhere you want to. Some cities even have offices where entrepreneurs can share common areas and use meeting rooms just to get out of the house to do work. Sometimes we need to leave our comfort zone to get some work in.

While these are just a few things you can implement, there are so many more. Find what works for you and get into a steady groove. Make things easy on yourself and get to work. As usual, if you need any help, I’m around.

6 Tips to Help Find your Niche Market

Hello creative minds!

We’ve discussed the fact that marketing is crucial to the success of your business. Target marketing takes this a step further and can mean even better results for you. Some people find it difficult to narrow things down. Why not just offer my services to everyone who will listen and see who responds? Um, because no one will hear you, to respond.

You don’t want to just be in the business, you want to be the go-to person for your product or service. You want to become the expert in your industry and be known for whatever it is that you do or provide. How do you let others know that you are that expert? You must effectively target a specific market.

Here are straight to the point, clear cut tips to get your brain moving and ideas flowing!

NICHE Blog Pic PNG

1.) Brainstorm your assets

Often we do things so much that we forget what we can do and what we’re good at. Create a list of 5 things you love, 5 things you’re good at, 5 things you like to do, 5 jobs you’ve had and 5 educational courses/classes you’ve taken. Evaluate your list to see if there’s a pattern. You may be on to something.

2.) Identify and analyze your current audience

If you’re in business already, let’s see if there’s a trend, something you can hone in on.

3.) Analyze the product or service you are marketing

See what it is that you really have to offer and see exactly who is buying. Make sure you are speaking the right words to the right audience.

4.) Find your potential audience

With information from the previous tip, figure out who your audience is. Be precise. How old are they, where do they live, how much money do they have to spend, what do they like, where do they hang out, do they have children, are they married, are they in school, are they frugal, etc… you get my point. Build a profile of this person. The more you know about them, the easier it will be for you to know exactly what to say to them and provide them with what they want and need.

5.) Pinpoint 1 segment

Try to narrow your niche down to one specific concentration if you can. If you’re a baker, maybe you specialize in baking cookies or you’re known for your cupcakes. If you work in retail, maybe you narrow it down to specialty shoes or unique dresses. I hope you understand where I’m going. Be as specific as possible.
